North Denmark Region
For the past 15 years, The North Denmark Region has developed from being based on traditional industries, agriculture and fishing to relying increasingly on know-ledge-based companies. Today, northern Jutland has a world-renowned competency cluster within telecommunications and the potential to assemble competency clusters within material technology and health technology as well as food. The region is developing into an area of international economic significance, with an ever-increasing number of international companies and subsidiaries, international education institutions, researchers and employees, as well as central welcome programmes for immigrants arriving in the area.

Wireless communication
The North Denmark Region has established itself as a region with extensive expertise in wireless communication. The competency cluster for mobile and satellite communications in northern Jutl-and is regarded as the best-known competency cluster in Denmark.

The cluster is structured around products related to wireless communication, including mobile and satellite communications equipment. The companies in the competency cluster focus on two subsidiary areas. The first is the production and development of mobile communications equipment and wireless systems, etc. The second consists of producing and developing maritime communications and navigation equipment. Many large Danish and foreign ICT companies have been drawn to northern Jutland because of the high knowledge level within the field.
It is a field that is undergoing constant development and overlaps with other fields such as health technology.

Life sciences
Denmark is home to one of the world's strongest life science clusters comprising extensive R&D, highly educated and innovative manpower and a critical mass of leading industrial companies. The North Denmark Region is a biomedico leader, possessing unique core competences in such fields as neurostimulation, neurohabilitation, pain research, stem cell research, biostructures and protein design as well as protein chemistry and nanotechnology. The biomedico cluster in the North Denmark Region builds, among other things, on electronics and telecommunication, and is therefore characterised by a strong technological focus.

Renewable energy
The North Denmark Region has strong competences within renewable energy. The University of Aalborg is a leading knowledge centre in the fields of wind power and electricity generation. The region is home to a number of leading industrial companies.

Food
Parts of the region also command a strong position in the food industry. There is both specialisation in quality foods, such as Læsø salt, and extensive industrial food production. The region also has a food processing industry with close links to the iron and steel industry, which specialises in developing food processing machinery. Food from northern Jutland is well known all over Denmark for its high quality and fine taste.
